Austria, Vienna
All five days were a mixure of lost of tension, nerves and relaxation with good time. You think its not possible? Believe me its possible:)So this post has some subtopics to make it easier to organise.
Bad luck and bureaucracy
Its like your worst nightmare!!! I don’t feel like writing this story again, I have told it so many time to different people, so most likely you already know it, and if you don’t, maybe one day I will post it. But to be frank today I don’t feel posting it.
Relaxation
Despite the things as I prefer to call “bad luck” I had really good time in Vienna. First of all, after number of days or months (?) I had spend all day by myself not worrying anything except the things I should see, which street to head for better view, which tree to have your lunch under and which park bench to choose to sit and read the book. Lovely! Again discovered how pleasant it is to lay on the grass and feel the ground with your bare foot. Even the bugs running over your body seems to be pleasant on such day :) . Another evening I spend self reflecting, setting personal and professional goals for next year, reviewing my values, and writing down my fears, things that I want to learn during one year, and the things that I would like to get rid of. And, what you say, as a cherry on the cake top was reflection of self reflection in peaceful park just over the corner from the place I lived. I spend over a hour clearing my mind and enjoying warm weather.
Parties
We have had AIESEC bbq at Foxi place who is crazy about Scotland J. It was nice evening with hot, thick air, when you almost can cut it with the knife. And after some time the sky was decorated by lightening and accompanied by thunder. The color of the sky was really the “must see” view:) . So actually we had to move inside and enjoy fresh air in the terrace out of the room. Lovely! When the party got its pace, Foxi promised us chocolate surprise… at that point I stated to wonder what should it be, coz in AIESEC I have had several chocolate surprises, hehe… But this time it was not “poshlas” as I say. Actually, it was extremely tasty chocolate and fruits fondue.
Another evening Georg and me went to pub “Unplugged”. It’s a small pub in kind of a basement, with poor air condition or rather no air conditioning at all, where kind of underground or just starting up groups plays live music. It reminded me of Orleanas in Kaunas, with the style of music played there, with people there, atmosphere, just a bit more space, and the same amount of smokes as in Orleanas. Really I felt as in good old Orleanas :), after that we moved to another place for a drink where we met Niki with Bulgarian girls. Was nice evening out!
Seegasse flat
I stayed at Vienna’s LCP Niki flat and his two cool flatmates Georg and Flo. These three guys are making really nice family there… hehehe… The flat is better version of what we call here @ flat :) It’s also old type flat with rooms that you can enter from one to another, you can go in circles all the flat around. actually I found quite awkward to have a shower in a bathroom with two doors, non of them locking and 3 guys in a flat:). Fun! The best part of the flat is little room near the kitchen made especially for sheesha! Lovely place to chill out! Here is also a small thank you note for Niki, Georg and Flo for your hospitality!
Discovering Vienna:
To be frank before going to Vienna I didn’t prepare at all, like reading some books, place to see or so. Also I could not even say that I had a certain view of Vienna in front of my eyes. So I had some nice discoveries.
Transportation: just after one hour arriving to Vienna I went to meet MC guys at the Danube fiesta, and well Niki explained how to get there changing some metro lines… that sounded really complicated at the beginning, well it was really easy to get there, but next day I had to go to Lithuanian embassy and then again changing from metro to tram few times. But actually transportation system is well organised and is easy to use. Even me, who sometimes likes to mess up with public transport, done really wellJ. Actually during these five days I have crossed Vienna back and forwards million of times going from one ministry to another… so now I can say that I get along with public transportation!
Parks: another thing that I have discovered is lovely parks that are such a nice place to chill out in the middle of the city, just to grasp some nice air, smell some flowers and feel the nature.
Language: No offence but I have my point of view of German language that it sounds rough, and actually I was never keep on learning it. For my surprise Viennese way of speaking really sounded nice. Of course now we can say that Viennese people different accent, and that’s true, but still the sound of the language was a nice surprise for me. I even started to catch up some words:).
Humour: don’t wanna make a generalisation, but from the people that I have met I may say that Viennese people have as I say healthy humour. They are always so cheerful and making fun, all the time, especially Georg, hehehe:) I had really good time! By the way, do you know that Austrai produce big amount of CORNS :)
Danube: here comes my ignorance, hehehe… only when I was sitting in the metro with Kruopa and going home already, we crossed the Danue river, and Kruopa suddenly said isn’t it Danube? (Dunojus). And I went like, “you think so..?”. Yep I may seem stupid not knowing geography and the language… But at the end of the day I was happy that I have spend an afternoon sitting on the bank of Danube:).
Worst question you may ask: “So what’s the purpose of your stay in Vienna?”, here usually comes my explanation about all diploma legalisation, visa and embassies issues. But after third question in half an hour I just simply smile, and say, oh just visiting your lovely city and doing some business.
Another even worst question that I still receive every day from 21st of June: “So, when are you going to Dubai?” – really, believe me, its killing me. Why? Because I don’t know when I’ll be able to go!!! And that’s the worst part, because I cannot plan my time properly, and be aware of how much time I still have to spend fighting with bureaucracy.
Going home: After contrasting bad luck and good spent time finally I had to go home, for further destination of my degree legalisation. So finally Kruopa came to Vienna, and we set of to leave Vienna.
After some movie watching (“The Boat” – bloody long movie), packing, “special coffee” drinking we set off. Backpacks with us, and we are heading to highway to Brno. Finally when we reached the place where we can start hitchhiking it was almost 11 p.m. and the beginning of thunderstorm! We reached the petrol station which was closed! But well, we are two cute girls, so after 10 minutes in small dull rain, we are in polish car going straight from Vienna to small town in Poland close to the border. The accidents we had while I was sleeping at the back of the car: two dead cats, one hedgehog and injured rabbit. 3a.m. we are out in petrol station somewhere in little town in Poland. Even though the town seems small, the petrol station is alive with some random children coming for bread, some drunk man taking taxi to buy two beers, but at the first try he forgot his wallet so came back for another time… So after some 20 min, we are in a car of quite odd almost pensioner couple car. They all are bloody smokers including Kruopa! So almost two hours of just sitting and poisoning yourself in little car ful of smokes… We are off on the highway to Warsaw, rain gets worse of course only then when we get off of the car. So how it was in numbers: around 30 minutes waling on the highway looking for petrol station. destination reached. Then around 1 hour in petrol station trying to dry the shoes, and clothes, waiting rain to stop. No luck….it seems its going to rain for at least few days… The next strategy was to get the truck which goes to Warsaw – done. We have changed 4 trucks to go through all Poland. Maximum speed 90km/h, it makes 12 hours in the truck in Poland. At the end of the day, we were back to our sweet home! The trip was really successful with the only stuck for some time in rain in petrol station.
Latter i may illustarte this trip by photos:)
Cheers
